Autoscopy artist statement

Photoshop, for me, is a tool for creating a compelling visual world.  It is also a means for me to explore the spectrum of possibilities made available by my material selection. I also use it as an opportunity to experiment with the various possibilities opened up by slight adjustments in color, composition, and technique of application. Overthinking was the theme of my project, and it's something I do a lot. Everyone, at times, overthinks things. Overthinking has been related to anxiety and depression, but when you're in the thick of it, however, it's difficult to tell what state you are in. The reason I used the clouded head and space background is because the more I ponder an issue, the worse I feel. And, because emotions may cloud my judgment, it becomes more difficult to take a proactive approach which leaves me feeling lost or uncertain. Everyday, my boyfriend would ask me “ what do you want to eat?” and everyday, i would tell him “ i don't know, it does not matter” simply because i hate making decisions and second guessing. I feel as though my image best describes the emotions I juggle daily. From basketball practice, to class, to even thinking about food, I tend to overthink everything which can sometimes be my biggest flaw.

  1. I really like the concept of your project. I can definitely understand where you are coming from about the anxiety and overthinking because I tend to overthink, too. I feel like the images you selected to use for this project are perfect, as well, especially that bottom one with the brain disconnected from the body because that is truly what it feels like. Great concept.

  2. Stress and overthinking is such an important topic to include in art right now specially, since so many people struggle with it. It was such an amazing idea to include this in your project. I can say that I definitely relate to overthinking, and never knowing where to get food from too! The images you selected convey overthinking very well. Great job!

    1. No one really talks about the subject and I wanted to use this project to speak how we all feel on a daily. I love that you can interpret the message behind it !

  3. I like how you want to use photoshop to help visualize the concepts like overthinking and indecisiveness. It was great to include this idea as I'm sure we have all struggled with the concept of overthinking in the past or present. Good work!

  4. I think as college students people aren't aware of how much goes through our heads on a day to day basis. I think people can definitely relate to what you are saying and illustrating in this project. I think you incorporated the idea of overthinking and stress into your project very well.
